What is Occupational Therapy (OT) ?
Occupational
therapy is a course of treatment or counseling / education to help a person maximise physical, psychological, social and vocational
abilities that have been disrupted because of accident or illness or congenital
conditions. Treatment may include the prescription of appropriate
rehabilitation aids.
When and why you might need an OT assessment?
Assessments usually occur
because the treating doctor has referred their patient to an OT for an
assessment and / or treatment. The
patient may have a work or age related injury, and / or be entitled to services
under a particular compensation scheme e.g Dept.
Veteran Affairs, Comcare, WorkCover
Victoria or the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
Our
Services:
Our services include both
home based and workplace assessment and treatments. We act in accordance with the requirements of
medical personnel, case managers, insurance providers
and as directed by the service standards stipulated by the regulatory bodies
for whom we are “approved providers”.
Methods
of assessment and treatment::
Assessments and/ or
treatment form part of a successful injury management and return to work
program, because they focus on ability and capacity, not just disability and
incapacity. Assessments and treatments
are individually tailored to each patient and encourage the full involvement
and participation of the patient in their recovery plan. Treatment is designed to be intensive, active
and outcome oriented, promoting self management and independence.
